Other highlights include configurable seating layouts with captain’s chairs, ambient lighting in bold colours, premium materials with several interior themes, and optional rear entertainment screens. Tech and Intelligence
The Freelander 8 is built on the new iMax platform, supporting various powertrain options, including a full-electric powertrain, a plug-in hybrid, and a range-extender hybrid. The electric version can utilise 800V fast charging, enabling significantly reduced charging times. In its first version for China, it includes advanced driver assistance systems made with Huawei, plus LIDAR sensors and fast processors from Qualcomm.
This makes it a true next-generation smart SUV, where software and connectivity matter as much as its driving.

Market Position: Not Quite a Land Rover One of the most interesting things about the Freelander 8 is what it isn’t. Even though it shares design and history with Land Rover, it won’t carry the Land Rover badge. Instead, Freelander will be its own premium brand, priced a bit below regular Land Rover models. This means it could cost less than the Defender but still offer a similar size and style. By keeping Freelander separate, Jaguar Land Rover can try new markets and technologies without affecting its main brands.

Coming to the UK and Beyond
After its launch in China in late 2026, the Freelander 8 should arrive in the UK and Europe around 2027.
